The salon style living room was created as an intimate space for conversation, reading, and cocktail gatherings, and was inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountain views glimpsed through the two-story floor-to-ceiling windows. The room evokes a 1930’s French vibe with a salon wall display of landscape paintings by local artists Helen Hilliard and Malcolm Hughes. The scenic artwork draws the eye around the room and back outside to the surrounding lush Virginia countryside.
Monroe Bisque by Benjamin Moore covers the walls and envelopes the space in a warm glow. The soothing palette was continued in the fan pleated linen window treatments.
The curves of the settee mimic the curve of the large bow window. Using a settee instead of sofa creates a cozier seating arrangement. The two club chairs, one in black leather and one in a textured cream fabric add a retro feel to the space. Two French side chairs are used for additional seating in the entryway and salon area.
The creamy-white upholstery palette was used as a blank canvas to showcase decorative pillows. The aubergine and russet hues of the pillows and throws were pulled from the multi-colored wool carpets in addition to imitating the color palette of the sunrises and sunsets viewed through the large windows.
To compliment the iron and wood railings of the staircase and gallery above the living room, a nailhead chest was tucked against the staircase wall. Drinks are served from the stylish liquor cabinet with additional space available for glassware and beverage storage.
